History
The Red Hotz has been the competitive dance team at the University of Georgia since August 29th, 2001. It was founded as a club sport by Devon Bollman to represent UGA dance on a National level. The Red Hotz have become a large part of the UGA tradition by performing at events on campus such as in the Homecoming Parade, Sound of Milledge, Lip Sync, etc. The team thrives in a competitive environment and competes several times a season, including NDA College Nationals. Red Hotz provides the much-needed outlet for dancers to continue developing their craft throughout college. Please email us or DM us if you have any questions or are interested in trying out!

FAQs
Q: What styles of dance does the team focus on?
A: Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical and Pom.
Q: What makes Red Hotz different than other dance teams/groups at UGA?
A: Because we are competitive in nature, our style of dance reflects that of many other competitive collegiate dance teams and is one that is truly unique to our campus. We incorporate both technique and sharp, precise movements in our dances and focus heavily on synchronicity and athleticism. To us, dance is not just about feeling pretty but feeling strong and powerful!
Q: Is dance experience required to be on Red Hotz?
A: Generally speaking, yes. Most of the required skills to be on Red Hotz take years of practice to master. Most of the girls on the roster have had many years of dance experience and training whether it be from studio or school dance teams.
Q: Is Red Hotz a "UGA Athletic" team?
A: No. Red Hotz falls under UGA Competitive Sports, a program that is a separate entity from UGA Athletics. However, many of the teams we compete against are their schools' Athletic/Varsity dance teams.
Q: How often does the team practice, and where are the practices held?
A: We have practice three times a week. Generally, we practice on Sundays, Mondays, and Wednesdays for around 2 hours. We practice at Ramsey Student Center and usually another studio space in the Athens area. Once practice times are given to us, we will post them here.
Q: Where does the team perform?
A: We typically perform at events such as DanceATHENS, UGA Homecoming week events and the parade, campus charity events (Shop with a Bulldog, Food 2 Kids), Greek Life philanthropies/fundraisers (Miss Sorority Row, Sound of Milledge, Greek Grind), Atlanta Hawks pre-show, Georgia Swarm Lacrosse Halftime, regional competitions, and so much more. Our biggest event of the year is NDA Nationals in Daytona Beach, FL where we compete in Division IA against schools across the country.
Q: When are auditions?
A: General information for our auditions for the 2023-2024 are now available on our "Auditions" tab!! Once more specific details are decided, the information under that tab will be updated and we will keep our social media accounts (@ugaredhotz) updated with changes as well!
Q: How big is the team?
A: We generally cap the team at 15-20 dancers unless we decide to accept alternates. Alternates participate in all performances and fundraisers but do not compete unless needed. There is a space to select whether or not you would be willing to be an alternate in the audition application.
Q: Who leads the team?
A: The team is completely student-run. This year, we have a captain, Olivia Hulett, who will lead the team in practices and events with assistance from our co-captain, Rachel Riggs. There are also opportunities for team members to hold additional officer positions such as secretary or social media chair.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Our dues for the 2023-2024 season will differ depending if you are a new member or a returning member. New member dues will be in the $700-800 dollar range this season, split up into 3 payments during fall semester. Returning member dues will be less than new members, because they already have a lot of the apparel that the new members will need. Dues pay for Nationals, Regionals, backpacks, apparel, choreography, etc. Our dues are subject to change every year, and exact numbers will be provided at the team meeting after the roster is announced.
Q: Are there any other requirements to be on Red Hotz?
A: Along with being a confirmed UGA student, undergraduate team members must be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours AT THE TIME OF COMPETITION in order to be eligible to compete at nationals; graduating seniors and graduate students may be enrolled in less. "Attempted" hours do not count per the rule book of the National Dance Alliance. Please keep this in mind as you plan your class schedule if you are interested in auditioning.
Q: Can you juggle other dance teams with Red Hotz?
A: Yes. We have had girls in the past that have participated in both Red Hotz and other dance groups such as the Georgettes, DanceFX's Concert Company or the UGA Dance Department's CORE company at the same time. We work with every dancer to make practices and events work with their busy schedules. The only dance team that cannot be done simultaneously with Red Hotz is the Dance Dawgs since their prime season is in the spring, which is when we are getting ready for Nationals.
Q: Who do I contact if I have further questions?
A: The most direct way to contact us would be through DM on instagram, but you can also email us at ugaredhotz@hotmail.com if you have any questions. We are @ugaredhotz on Instagram, Facebook, and Tik Tok.
